KINUNU Coffee Washing Station
is a branch of SOCOR S.A.R.L., a family owned company finding
its roots in the region. SOCOR Café started producing specialty
coffee (Fully-Washed Coffee) under the label KINUNU COFFEE by
setting up its first Coffee Washing Station in 2004 in MURAMBA,
BONEZA sector, RUTSIRO district, in the Western province of Rwanda.
The Coffe Washing Station is located in the prime coffe-producing
region of the country, on volcanic soils of the hills over-looking
lake Kivu, at about 2,000 meters above sea-level. The climate
there is perfect for coffee production. The rainfall is approximately
1,100mm per year and is evenly distributed across the entire area.
On top of the 3,000 coffee growers supplying the washing station
wth coffee cherries, SOCOR Café owns a field with 20,000
coffee-producing trees. A tree nursery has been set up to provide
seedlings to the surrounding population. The current business
model allows sustainable production of organic coffe by introducing
organic farming techniques including the use of organic manure
coming from cows.
